thanks for share, its very useful.
There’s some really nice software there! I used Inkscape and Paint.net quite a bit before throwing down on the Adobe software, and I still use Notepad++ and FileZilla daily. Thanks for the post!

Great post, I hadn’t heard of most of these tools before. It’s nice to see more posts about just Windows in this niche…some mac users are so biased against writing for PC users!
This was very helpful, I’ll be sure to look through it more carefully when I come back.

I just happened to be looking at text editors recently and checked out a few of these. You missed a really great one — RJ TextEd. I replaced NoteTab Lite with it and I’m tickled pink happy with everything it does!
Nice post, there are some great tools here I was unaware of.
You might want to include HTML-Kit (frankly, I was surprised it wasn’t there).
I use FileZilla & HTML-Kit daily, but rely on paid solutions for drawing & photos.
Nice list, although I wish you had included some method of comparing the capabilities and usability for each functional s/w group, so I’d know which to try and which to give a skip.
great article, very helpful resources, thanks for the list..

@alex: Done one already
Interesting, you gonna do a mac version freeware post soon ?
@NiteStar: Thanks for the suggestion but this post is focused only on Software. Will do a post on CMS in future.
It would have been nice for you to include the 3 major open-source CMS in existence: WordPress, Joomla, Drupal…
